Tregantle and Lantic classes have had the most incredible trip to Plymouth Theatre Royal to watch The Little Red Hen! They walked all the way from school to Saltash Train Station where they eagerly awaited their train to Plymouth. There was much excitement when the train arrived! Traveling over Brunel Bridge was wonderful - the children saw the road bridge and lots of boats below. Next was another walk from Plymouth Station to the Theatre Royal. The show was just fantastic - the children were so engrossed from start to finish. There was time for a picnic in the theatre before walking back to the train station to return home. All of our children behaved impeccably and were a joy to take out!
This week in Tregantle Class, our Year 1 and EYFS children have been immersed in a variety of engaging activities to introduce our new text, 'The Little Red Hen.' To introduce the classic tale of The Little Red Hen, our Year 1 children embarked on a hands-on bread-making adventure! They measured ingredients, mixed dough, and observed the transformation as their creations baked into delicious bread rolls. This activity not only brought the story to life but also reinforced practical maths skills through accurate measuring.
Our EYFS children have been busy writing sentences and words inspired by The Little Red Hen. Their creativity flourished as they described their ideas and used their Fred fingers to write the words they wanted. Additionally, they delved into the world of patterns and 3D shapes, identifying and creating repeating patterns and learning the names of various 3D shapes.
On Red Nose Day, both Year 1 and EYFS children joined in the festivities by wearing red attire. Thank you so much for all of your contributions!
With the arrival of warmer weather, we've taken our learning outside and enjoyed our amazing outside spaces. The children have relished the opportunity to engage in outdoor activities and enjoy the sunshine.
We are all very much looking forward to our theatre trip next week to watch The Little Red Hen!
What an amazing science week we've had in Tregantle! Our focus has been of floating and sinking and looking at how we can help to keep our planet clean. The children have been amazing at experimenting and talking about their ideas. We also had some great designs for our competition to design something to help clear the plastic from the ocean. We even had a prize winner which was fantastic! We certainly have some budding scientists in Tregantle class!
What an amazing day we had yesterday for world book day! The children of Tregantle took part in so many exciting activities all about books. We started the day with a costume parade around the classroom where everyone got to talk about the character that they had dressed up as. Shortly after, it was the story carousel - we all went off to different parts of the school to listen to different stories read by different teachers. There were plenty of activities in class to keep busy with too, including making a book, a character puzzle and story telling corner. After lunch there was much excitement for the legendary Brunel 'Character Quiz!' Each of the teachers were in role as the character that they had dressed up as and the children had to visit each character and question them to find out more about them. There was lots of fun and laughter! It's been such an eventful week in Tregantle; we all thoroughly enjoyed celebrating St Piran's day on Wednesday and watched a wonderful assembly led by Talland Class. We enjoyed making our own Cornish flags and learning more about the legend of St Piran.
What a wonderful start to the second half of the spring term. We have all absolutely loved the sunshine towards the end of the week! Our EYFS children have really made the most of the spring like weather and have been enjoying lots of time outside. We have been tidying up our garden after a very wet spell and getting stuck in to some large construction play. There have been some incredible designs from police stations to a fully functioning plumbing system! As usual we have made plenty of time for stories and we have all loved getting absorbed in our new 'Oi Frog' series. The rhyming stories have had us laughing together as well as helping us to learn lots of new vocabulary. Every single Tregantle child was a writer this week when they used their knowledge of the 'Oi Frog' stories to label different animals and objects from the story.
Our Amazing Year 1 children have been learning all about primary and secondary colours in their art lesson this week. They used primary coloured play dough to mix and create new shades and colours. We have seen some amazing weather reports from our year 1 writers as they embarked on their new topic 'What is the Weather like in the UK.' It's been a really good week to explore lots of different types of weather! We are really looking forward to recording our weather reports next week!
We have had a super busy final week of the half term! Tregantle children had a really fun day on Tuesday when we took part in lots of activities as part of safer internet day. There were many fun and informative sessions that reinforced the message 'stop, close, tell.'
We were lucky to welcome a local author and illustrator to school on Wednesday. We took part in an illustrators master class and learnt about the process of writing a published book.
We took part in a very special assembly today to say goodbye Miss Rowlands who is retiring after 29 year at Brunel! We wish Miss Rowlands all the very best for her retirement!
Have a wonderful half term break and we look forward to seeing you back at school very soon!
What a busy week we've had in Tregantle! We have been so immersed in creativity during our Brunel art week. The children of Tregantle have been studying several local artists who create pieces about the sea. We used this as inspiration to create wave scenes by tearing and layering pieces of paper. We added detail with felt tip pens and cotton bud painting. The final pieces are each unique and capture something of our beautiful coastline. It was wonderful to be able to share our art work with the community during our Brunel Art Gallery on Friday.
We have also been taking part in lots of health and well being activities across the week in recognition of Children's mental health week. In Tregantle, we have focused on exploring our emotions. We have been using our star emojis to think about the emotions we experience and how they feel.
On Friday we had lots of fun taking part in the NSPCC number day. We thought about why numbers are so important when we read the story 'Spinderella.' We found out that playing teams games is very difficult without being able to count! The children then thought about what numbers are special to them like birthdays, house numbers and how old we are.
We've had a very active week in Tregantle this week! The brighter weather towards the end of the week has meant that we have had lots of time outside. The children have been really helpful around the garden as we have been clearing out and preparing for spring. The highlight of the week was definitely our scooter workshop with Ashlea on Thursday. The children learnt how to scoot safely and completed an obstacle course going in and out of cones and dodging the volcanoes! What a fun way to stay active and develop gross motor control.
What an exciting week it's been! The highlight of the week has been our Tregantle bedtime story. On Thursday the EYFS children were invited back to school in the evening all ready for bed! The children and teachers came dressed in their pyjamas and slippers ready to snuggle down for a story. There were many teddies who also came along to hear the stories. Not only did we listen to some great stories, but also were lucky to have a hot chocolate and biscuit treat! This has been another great way to foster a love of reading in our youngest children.
We've had another amazing week in Tregantle, full of new experiences, learning and fun!
Our Year 1 children were super scientists at the beginning of the week when they began learning about animals and their habitats. It was so much fun collecting up all of our toy animals and sorting them into the right habitats. We continued the animal theme in P.E where we learnt a dance to the music 'The Pink Panther.' We all had to work hard to move in time to the music and combine fast and slow movements. The whole team have been blown away with Tregantle's maths skills this week. The Year 1 children have been superb at using a number line effectively including adding missing numbers and our EYFS children have been amazing at adding numbers to 5. We got very creative when we made pictures to go with our class story 'The Gruffalo's Child.' The children used different shades of cold colours to create a background and then added black silhouettes of characters from the story. They all look fabulous on our display board! We ended the week with an exciting trip to Saltash Library. This really helped to develop our love of reading as there were so many fantastic books on offer. They children really enjoyed browsing though the books and especially loved picking a book to take home for the week. There was much excitement when it was time to scan our books in the borrowing machine! Enjoy your books Tregantle Class!
