w/e 22.9.23

We’re really getting into our learning now! What a fun week we’ve had.

We are loving finding out about where and when Ancient Egypt was. We have learned that it’s not just about mummies and pyramids!

In PSGE, we learned about all the people who make Brunel the best and how the children are at the centre of it all!

We have really loved our sketchbook work on eyes. This week we learned about the Eye of Horus and drew them in different styles!

w/e 15.9.23

This week we start to learn, rehearse and retell our narrative text-The Time-Slip Scarab - see the link in files below to have a read at home! It links nicely to our topic and is packed with great vocabulary. The children used this vocabulary to create informative posters which now decorate our walls and remind the children of the definitions and synonyms (words with the same or similar meaning!).

In maths, we started our Place Value topic and have spent some time to embed how to work out how to partition numbers up to 9,999.

In PE, we continued to learn how to play netball. We tried to be successful with the footwork rule!

We have started our French lessons as well as music, RE, PSHE and History. In computing, we're even learning how the internet works!

Welcome to Year 4!

Hello and welcome to Whitsand class!

The children have been wonderful at settling in this week, especially in the heat (how typical, now we are back!).

This week, we have been settling into routines, getting to know each other and beginning our learning. Our topic for this term is ‘Who were the Ancient Egyptians?’
Please see the topic web attached for more details on what we will be learning in each subject.

We are beginning our English journey with learning how to write a story with a historical setting and by embedding number through place value in maths.
We are keen readers at Brunel, and in Whitsand class we love to hear about ANYTHING the children are enjoying to read. Please encourage your child to read at home and to share what they are reading at school with us. We ask for school books to be read at home for 15 minutes a night at least 5 times a week and for this to be noted by an adult in their reading records. This is so important as reading is the key to all learning across the curriculum!

Maths homework with be sent home shortly. Spelling booklets have been sent home this week. Testing will start next Friday (15th). I have attached the year 4 information below for your information.
Please email or see me at the end of the day (once I have seen all of the children out) if you ever need to give me a message or ask a question.
