This week the children in Lantic class have been so busy! We have been exploring characters feelings in English lessons, comparing schools from the past with now, understanding that Jesus is 'Good News' for Christian's by being forgiving AND making rabbit sliders in our DT lessons... We've shared our favourite books and worked really hard on using sentence stems to support our oracy skills in EVERY lesson! Thank goodness it's the weekend - we need a rest! Remember to keep reading at home and don't forget to look at your Maths homework on Anton.
I wonder what we'll be doing next week...
The children have been amazing at settling straight back to work with great gusto!
This week the children were introduced to a new story in English - Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs. I thought a cleaner had left a bag of rubbish in the class but it was clues to the story...
In Science, the class sorted living, dead and never alive objects - this led to lots of interesting discussion about how 'never alive' some items were. We are trying to improve out oracy skills as a school so this was a great chance to use some sentence stems to support our discussions.
In DT today, the children again used their oracy skills in their discussions about the mechanics used in 'pop-up' books - this was the first lesson in a set where they will end up designing and making their own book with moving parts.
We are so looking forward to a brilliant 2025 in Lantic Class. After a well deserved Christmas break, we are full of hopes and dreams as to what the year will bring and we hope that the children return refreshed and ready for a great term of new learning!
Below are this half-terms Knowledge Webs, which highlight all the learning the children will be doing in class, across the range of subjects. So here's to new beginnings, let's see where our learning journey takes us.

This week has been so busy!!
We had a trip to the Saltash Baptist Church for their interactive nativity, which we loved. After that, we watched the KS2 Christingle dress rehearsal (some of you may have been lucky enough to visit St. Stephen's Church on Wednesday evening too) at school. Later on Wednesday, we watched a mesmerizing performance from the Ballare Ballet School - it was AMAZING! On Thursday we were very lucky as we watched Santa (Live from the North Pole!) read 'Twas the Night Before Christmas' to the children and we sang some of his favourite Christmas songs. Today, the Rev. Parkman led our final assembly of 2024 wishing everyone a very peaceful and merry Christmas.
And now it's time to say goodbye to 2024 and wonder what delights 2025 might bring and so as the famous poem says...
HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!
We also finished off our DT project of making Tudor houses following our designs...
What a fantastic couple of performances the EYFS/KS1 children did of 'Whoops-a-Daisy Angel'! The children really enjoyed doing both the shows, which I think showed in their performances and we know the adults that came and watched enjoyed it too.
The children visited the Christmas Tree festival on Friday - it is one of our favourite times of the year... They loved finding the Brunel tree and seeing all the other decorated trees - some are a real inspiration!
In Science the children sorted different materials into magnetic and non-magnetic - shhh... don't tell Mrs. Williamson that we even tested her coffee! During our DT lesson the children worked collaboratively at building their Tudor buildings after planning them a week ago. They are starting to look amazing - Thank you for all the donated boxes!
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
We have been like Christmas elves this week, with show rehearsals, calendar making, card making, more show song rehearsals, Christmas math's (after a very successful dress rehearsal!)...
During English we finished our class story version of Hansel and Gretel, called Woody and Taylor.
We have also been learning in Science about sinking and floating. We tested various materials after we made our predictions to see if we were right.
This week as well as lots of amazing writing during English and working hard with addition and subtraction in Maths, the children have been rehearsing for our Christmas performance.
They have also been designing waterproof buildings for Incy Wincey Spider in Science and designing new Tudor/Stuart buildings in DT. They have really enjoyed working together on their waterproof designs - though some were more successful than others. Then they started to evaluate what they did!
We have done so much this week in Lantic Class!
At the beginning of the week we visited Saltash Fire Station - we learnt about fire safety ay home and who to call in a fire. We then were shown around a fire engine and we even got to have a go using the water hose.
On Thursday we visited Vue Plymouth to watch Jungle Bunch World Tour - we all really enjoyed the film it was very funny.
In DT, we have started to look at designing Tudor buildings. We have done this by studying Tudor buildings and finding their features.
The children looked fabulous in their blue for anti-bullying week today! They've enjoyed lots of activities during the week. The theme this year was 'Choose Respect' so we've been working on respect all week.
In English we have been learning about our story 'Hansel and Gretel' and finding out that it has a 'defeating a monster' theme... we also read some other books with the same theme - The Mousehole Cat, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and The Three Little Pigs - Perhaps you could ask your child what these books all had in common?
It has also been Math's week so on Tuesday we played lots of Math's games and the Year 2's on Friday had a Maths Challenge to solve - it was very tricky so we may have to go back to it!
This week in science we were investigating which materials are waterproof - we were helping 'Incy Wincy Spider' to stop him being washed out of the spout!
This week has been such a busy week back!
In gymnastics we have been learning how to travel and land from jumps safely. The children were really good at travelling in different ways before freezing in a different shape.
During Science, the children were investigating which materials would be the strong and stretchy enough to be used as a tether for an astronaut - we discovered that nylon tights were the best (sadly, Rolo's are not good for tethers!)
In History, we looked at how London has changed since the 1666 Great Fire and became architects, drawing what the new city should look like. We also wrote and discussed why the changes needed to happen.
Last week, Hindu's around the world celebrated Diwali - the festival of light. So this week the children learnt about the festival and made diya lamps, diya lamps are traditionally oil lamps with a cotton wick dipped in ghee to symbolise prosperity for the new year.
